Lataya Powell, 13, allegedly admitted to killing her mother, Tameeka Tucker, when responding officers arrived at about 12:30 p.m. local time Friday at a home on South Sherman Street in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

The suspect apparently inflicted lethal wounds on Tucker's torso and head area, during the stabbing rampage, police said. Powell's 11-year-old brother was also found with stab wounds to his back, lying on a couch in the living room. His injuries were however not considered life-threatening.

“I killed my mom and she’ll never forgive me if she is alive,” she said, according to the criminal complaint.

Police did not initially find knives or cutting instruments when they arrived, but reportedly noticed broken kitchen drawers and cabinets with padlocks. Powell told the cops, she threw the weapon on a neighbor’s doorstep.

A neighbor who found the knife on her front porch said she was working in her backyard at the time of Powell's crime.

“I’m the reason my mom is dead,” Powell reportedly told police. “I don’t know how people can do stuff like this and not feel bad about it.”

Footage circulating on social media shows the 13-year-old telling a reporter that she felt “regret, guilt and self-disgust” before she was placed in a patrol car.

Powell is reportedly being held at the Luzerne County Jail, awaiting preliminary hearing on April 10.
