Following the visit to Taiwan by speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, the totalitarian regime in Beijing has ratcheted up its military and diplomatic provocations against the small island nation which it claims to be part of China. The speaker's 19-hour trip is the highest-level US visit in 25 years to the self-governed island.

The Chinese military is holding its largest military drills around Taiwan and has been violating the airspace of the island nation which has had to scramble military jets to fend off the incursions.

China confirmed that more than 100 warplanes and 10 warships have taken part in the live-fire military drills, which will end on Sunday. Chinese military’s Eastern Theater Command bragged that it had fired new versions of missiles that hit unidentified targets in the Taiwan Strait “with precision.”

On Friday, at least four missiles were tracked flying directly over Taiwan’s capital, Taipei, according to Japan’s defense ministry. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called it a “significant escalation,” saying there is no “there is no possible justification for what they’ve done and urge them to cease these actions.”

Japanese Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi called it a “serious threats to Japan’s national security and the safety of the Japanese people.” Prime Minister Fumio Kishida called the military exercises a “grave problem” that threatens regional peace and security in the area.

At a daily press conference, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying insisted China’s actions were in line with “international law and international practices.”

The totalitarian regime in Beijing Friday, sanctioned Pelosi and her immediate family, for her “vicious” and “provocative” trip to Taiwan. “Despite China’s serious concerns and firm opposition, Pelosi insisted on visiting Taiwan, seriously interfering in China’s internal affairs, undermining China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, trampling on the one-China policy, and threatening the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait,” a foreign ministry spokesperson said.

The regime also said it is canceling or suspending talks with the US on issues from climate change to military relations and anti-drug efforts.

Pelosi fired back, insisting it was “ridiculous” that her supportive trip to Taiwan had sparked such an escalation by Beijing. “They may try to keep Taiwan from visiting or participating in other places, but they will not isolate Taiwan by preventing us to travel there,” she said.

Critics have slammed US President Joe Biden for his administration's weak response to Beijing. Many pointed out that the totalitarian regime would not have escalated things this brazenly under former president Donald Trump.
