James Rayl, 22, was apparently not taking no for an answer from his girlfriend when he decided to force his way into her house in Sydney, Ohio, on July 31.

Ring doorbell video circulating online shows the 22-year-old, trying to open the door even as the ex-girlfriend can be heard screaming for him to go away. Her father Mitch Duckro at one point, warned the creepily calm ex-boyfriend that he is armed.

Undeterred, Rayl appears to try to break down the wooden front door by slamming his shoulder against it. Duckro then fires his gun three times through a window, striking the 22-year-old in the back.

The video shows the shot boyfriend make his way down the porch steps and walks a short distance before collapsing in the middle of a pathway.

In a 911 audio recording from the incident, obtained by WHIO-TV 7, a woman who described the intruder as her ex-boyfriend is heard telling her father that Rayl is trying to break down the door. “Dad, is he trying to kill me?” she could be heard asking.

After the shooting, Duckro's daughter is heard telling him, “Dad, there’s nothing you could have done. You saved my life.”

According to a joint press release from the county prosecutor and the local sheriff, Rayl was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. An autopsy found that he sustained two gunshot wounds to the shoulders and a fatal wound to the back.

A Shelby County grand jury voted 8-1 earlier this month, against indicting Duckro on charges related to Rayl’s killing, citing the state’s “Stand Your Ground” law, which says that a homeowner does not have a legal duty to retreat from their home before firing a gun.

Rayl’s outraged family launched a Facebook page demanding justice. “Mitch shot him in the back and killed him,” Rayl’s sister Jessica Colbert wrote in a recent post. “I hope your days are more miserable than they’ve ever been. You’re a disgusting excuse of a human being along with your daughter.”

While some critics online, argue that Duckro used excessive force and blamed the gun culture in United States, others pointed out that Rayl had it coming the moment he decided to force his way into another man's home. The meme "he fucked around and found out," was the overwhelming point of agreement among many critics and commentators on social media.
