German Left-wing Mayor Brutally Tortured By Adopted Daughter

The German left-wing mayor of Herdecke, Iris Stalzer, was allegedly tortured for hours in her home's basement by her 17-year-old adopted daughter on October 7, 2025, according to leaked police documents and reports from multiple German media outlets.

Despite the severity of the attack, which included attempts to set her on fire with a lighter and deodorant spray, and 13 stab wounds, the daughter has not been arrested, and the case is being investigated as "grievous bodily harm" rather than attempted murder or torture, a decision that has sparked widespread public and political controversy.

Stalzer, a member of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), is now conscious and able to speak after being airlifted to a hospital in Bochum, where she underwent emergency surgery.

The adopted daughter initially called emergency services claiming her mother had been attacked by several men, but police determined this was a fabricated account to conceal the true crime.

Investigators found evidence that blood was scrubbed from the scene, and one of the two kitchen knives used in the attack was discovered in the backpack of Stalzer’s 15-year-old adopted son, along with bloody clothing from the daughter.

The public prosecutor stated that the daughter’s decision to call emergency services indicated she did not intend to kill her mother, which is the basis for classifying the crime as "grievous bodily harm" instead of attempted murder.

The daughter and her brother were transferred to the Youth Welfare Office, not prison, due to concerns about the father also being a past victim of violence by the daughter, suggesting a pattern of abuse.

Prior to this incident, police had been called to the home during the summer over allegations of domestic violence involving the daughter threatening Stalzer with a knife.

This case has drawn significant criticism, with figures like Austrian activist Martin Sellner accusing German authorities of a "two-tier" justice system, noting that the daughter faces no immediate prosecution while others are imprisoned for lesser offenses.
