Hate Crime Hoax Busted: Jury Finds Jussie Smollett Guilty

The jury in Chicago Thursday, declared Smollet guilty on five felony counts of staging racist, anti-gay attack and lying to the police in 2019. He was acquitted on a sixth count of disorderly conduct.

The 39-year-old  homosexual actor claimed he was attacked on  Jan. 29, by white 'racists' shouting "this is MAGA country"(President Trump's signature slogan: Make America Great Again). Smollett is a close friend of former first lady Michelle Obama and current vice president Kamala Harris.

Left-wing media outlets including CNN and ABC, and politicians like then presidential candidates Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were quick to believe the Fox series Empire actor, and tweeted support for him.

"@JussieSmollett is one of the kindest, most gentle human beings I know. I’m praying for his quick recovery. Harris wrote. "This was an attempted modern day lynching. No one should have to fear for their life because of their sexuality or color of their skin. We must confront this hate."

Biden wrote: "What happened today to @Jussie Smollet must never be tolerated in this country. We must stand up and demand that we no longer give this hate safe harbor; that homophobia and racism have no place on our streets or in our hearts. We are with you, Jessie."

However the actor was mocked online by many including many black Americans who thought the allegation was nonsensical. Popular black comedian Dave Chappelle also called out the actor in a hilarious bit.

Smollet was indeed lying. The two alleged attackers were his friends and Nigerian immigrants Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo. The assault was reported to police, prompting a massive investigation that a lead detective said included some two dozen officers and 3,000 staff hours. The investigation — which included video from surveillance cameras, GPS and taxi and rideshare records -- led police to the Osundairo brothers, who told detectives Smollett had staged the alleged hate crime.

The local police chief was furious for having to waste man-hours and money investigating a hoax. Corrupt Democrat politicians including Michelle Obama allegedly tried unsuccessfully to help the actor avoid facing any charges.

Smollet apparently tried to stoke racial tensions with his failed hoax.

Police also suggested the actor hoped the hoax would bolster his career, saying he was “dissatisfied with his salary” for his work on Empire. The show wrote him out of its sixth and final season after the incident in 2019, with a character explaining his departure by telling viewers “that boy ran off to London.”

Smollett faces up to three years in prison for each of the 5 counts, though he may only receive probation. It's up to the judge.
