At least 8 people were wounded -- two severely and five mildly and moderately, and a baby delivered by emergency C-section who is in serious but stable condition. Five Americans -- a pregnant woman and a family of four -- were among the victims.

The suspect, a resident of east Jerusalem with a criminal past, still had his gun with him when he turned himself in on Sunday. Sidawi's relative was also arrested.

While the Gaza-based terrorist group Hamas did not claim responsibility for the attack, a spokesman Fawzi Barhoum commended the “heroic operation” against the “arrogance of the occupation’s soldiers and extremist settlers.”

"Last night, a terrorist shot at a bus in Jerusalem wounding 8 people, including a pregnant 30 year old woman and a 60 year old man who are in critical care," Israeli Foreign Ministry wrote on social media. "We pray for their full recovery. This attack on Israel's capital, a city sacred to all three religions, must be condemned."

Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid promised swift action. "The Security forces are working to catch the hateful terrorist and won't stop until he's caught. Let it be known that everyone who tries to harm us will pay a price for harming civilians."

Lapid added: "Jerusalem is our capital city and the center of tourism for all religions. The police and the IDF are working to restore the quiet and the feeling of safety in the city."

Saturday's attack came a week after the flare-up during which Israeli military airstrikes in the Gaza Strip killed two commanders and other militants of the islamic terror group 'Islamic Jihad,' Hundreds of rockets were also fired against Israel by members of the terror group.
