French police Friday, shot dead a muslim terrorist who beheaded a teacher for showing cartoons of prophet Mohammed to students.

The middle school history teacher -- later identified as Samuel P -- had shown the cartoons in class as part of a lesson on freedom of expression. This apparently enraged the muslim community.

The terrorist confronted the teacher with a knife -- shouting "Allahu Akbar," -- before cutting his head off. The incident took place in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, a suburb some 25 miles from the centre of the French capital on Friday near a school, at around 5pm local time.

The jihadi apparently had time to upload an image of the killing to his now-deleted Twitter account, writing “o Macron, the leader of the infidels, I executed one of your hellhounds who dared to belittle Muhammad.” The 18-year-old who was born in Moscow, apparently had links with the school where his victim taught.

The suspect was reportedly carrying, in addition to an explosive belt, a knife, gun, or both. A video circulating on social media shows the moment officers confronted him in the nearby town of Eragny-sur-Oise, around two miles away, where he refused to surrender and was shot dead by police.

“He was waving a gun by this time and further threatened officers,” a source said. “This is when he was shot dead by police. Around ten shots were heard.”

Four people, including a child, have been arrested as part of investigation into the gruesome attack.

French President Emmanuel Macron denounced what he called an "Islamist terrorist attack." He visited the school where the teacher worked and met with staff. “A citizen has been murdered today because he was a teacher and because he taught freedom of expression," the president said. “The whole country stands behind its teachers. Terrorists will not divide France, obscurantism will not win.”

Europe has experienced many deadly terrorist attacks carried out by muslim extremists who immigrated from the middle east. Terrorists massacred 12 people in Paris at the offices of the satirical Charlie Hebdo magazine in 2015, including a police protection officer and a building maintenance workers, over its publication of unflattering cartoons of the Islamic prophet.
