According to the Capitol Police statement posted on social media, at about 1 pm, Friday, the suspect Noah Green 25, in a blue sedan, "rammed his vehicle into the North Barricade at the U.S. Capitol, striking 2 USCP officers."

The suspect apparently exited his vehicle and ran towards the officers, stabbing one. "At least one officer drew their weapon and shot the suspect," the statement reads.

Both the suspect and one officer William "Billy" Evans succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. Evans is an 18-year veteran of the Capitol Police force and a member of its First Responders Unit.

A second officer "is in stable and non-threatening condition," the Capitol Police also wrote on social media.

The Capitol complex was temporarily put on lockdown following the incident.

“It is with a very, very heavy heart that I announce that one of our officers has succumbed to his injuries,” Acting Capitol Police Chief Yogananda Pittman said during a news conference.

The suspect Green, who may have been living in Virginia, described himself as a “Follower of Farrakhan” on his Facebook page, in reference to Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.

On his Facebook page which has since been taken down, Green wrote on March 17: “I was on the right track and everything I had planned was coming into existence. .... However, the path has been thwarted, as Allah (God) has chosen me for other things. Throughout life I have set goals, attained them, set higher ones, and then been required to sacrifice those things.” He signed the message "Brother Nah X."

Farrakhan is a radical black nationalist and Islamic preacher who has been criticized for his hateful anti-white racist views.

Conservative critics noted that Big Tech companies like Apple and Google have not pulled Facebook apps from their app stores just like they did with pro-free speech social media apps like Gab and Parler over nonsensical hate speech claims.

"Another terrorist with a facebook account," Gab CEO Andrew Torba wrote. "When will Apple and Google remove Facebook from their app stores?"
