Ukrainian Attack On Rybinsk Fuel Depot Draw Russian Strikes On Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra

Ukrainian long-range drones, early Sunday, struck the "Temp" state fuel reserve depot in Rybinsk, Yaroslavl Oblast, over 700 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the attack, describing it as part of a plan of "long-range sanctions" against Russia in response to Moscow's refusal to end the war.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported that the strike ignited massive fires across more than 60 storage tanks, disrupting a key logistics hub for Russia’s northeastern regions and military supply lines.

Zelensky’s statement on X, highlighted that the operation, conducted by the SBU’s Special Operations Center “A,” successfully targeted critical infrastructure deep inside Russian territory. Alongside the Rybinsk oil depot, Ukrainian forces also struck the Azot chemical plant in Novomoskovsk, Tula Oblast, which produces materials for explosives.

The president wrote: "Our warriors have achieved good results in applying long-range sanctions against important facilities on the territory of Russia and in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. More than 700 kilometers from our state border, in Russia’s Yaroslavl region, SSU warriors struck an oil facility that was important for the reserves of the aggressor state.

"Warriors of our army reached their targets in Russia’s Tula region – specifically, the Azot plant, whose operations are critical to explosives production capabilities. Air traffic restrictions were imposed at six Russian airports, and overall, since yesterday evening, 28 regions of Russia have been under air raid alerts. There were also hits on the occupier’s military logistics in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine.

"Ukraine is carrying out its plan of long-range sanctions against Russia and the assigned tasks regarding mid-range strikes in response to Russia’s refusal to end this war. We have offered the Russian leadership every possible format for negotiations – and the only response was continued aggression and attempts to expand it. It stands to reason that the war is coming back to where it came from. Ukraine needs peace. Glory to Ukraine!"

The coordinated drone wave triggered air raid alerts in 28 Russian regions and forced temporary flight restrictions at six airports, including facilities in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

The "Temp" depot, operated by the Russian Federal Agency for State Reserves (Rosrezerv), stores gasoline, diesel, and lubricants essential for the Russian military. Residents in Rybinsk reported "fuel oil rain" as burning petroleum products fell from the sky following the drone impacts.

This attack is part of an intensified Ukrainian campaign targeting Russian energy and military-industrial infrastructure, following previous strikes on refineries in Krasnodar Krai and Cheboksary.

The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed to have intercepted hundreds of aerial objects, while regional officials confirmed significant fires at the industrial sites.

In response early on Monday, Russia launched one of its most intensive combined missile and drone assaults on Kyiv in months. The bombardment struck multiple civilian sites and ignited a massive fire at the historic Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, a deeply revered Ukrainian Orthodox monastery and UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The roof of the cathedral caught fire, sending flames visible across the district. Heavy rain in Kyiv partially assisted emergency crews in containing the blaze.

Under leadership from the Lavra's abbot, Bishop Avraamiy, monks and emergency workers urgently evacuated priceless religious relics, ancient icons, and national treasures from the burning structure.

Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra (Kyiv Monastery of the Caves), a UNESCO World Heritage Site founded in 1051, one of Ukraine’s most important historic and spiritual landmarks.
