WEF: Trump Threatens Europe With Tariffs

US President Trump on Tuesday renewed his harsh trade rhetoric against Europe at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Shortly before his meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Trump told Wall Street Journal, “They know that I’m going to put tariffs on them if they don’t make a deal that’s a fair deal.” And at the start of the meeting with von der Leyen, he said, “We’re going to talk about a big trade deal,....We’ve been talking about it for a while, and hopefully we can get something done.”

President Trump has been raising the issue of Europe's "unfair trade barriers" since he came into office. He has even said that it is sometimes tougher to deal with Europe on trade than it is to deal with China.

President Macron backed down recently on the French government plan to impose a so-called "digital tax" on US tech giants like Facebook and Google.
