The new company, xAI is led by X/Twitter owner Elon Musk, and aims to "understand the true nature of the universe." The company's team includes individuals who have previously worked at DeepMind, OpenAI, Google Research, Microsoft Research, Tesla, and the University of Toronto.

Musk had stated recently that the company's goal is to develop more transparent and accountable AI that can better work with humans. The Tesla chief has expressed reservations about unregulated and 'woke' artificial intelligence platforms like ChatGPT. And his fans on social media has asked him for a more unbiased generative artificial intelligence, they call BasedAI.

While it operates as a separate company, xAI will be collaborating closely with "X (Twitter), Tesla, and other companies," according to a blog post announcing the launch..

The new company's chief executive officer is Ilya Sutskever, a former research director at OpenAI. Other key hires include Igor Babuschkin and Manuel Kroiss, who worked on Google's DeepMind project.

"Collectively we contributed some of the most widely used methods in the field, in particular the Adam optimizer, Batch Normalization, Layer Normalization, and the discovery of adversarial examples," xAI said in the blog post. "We further introduced innovative techniques and analyses such as Transformer-XL, Autoformalization, the Memorizing Transformer, Batch Size Scaling, and uTransfer. We have worked on and led the development of some of the largest breakthroughs in the field including AlphaStar, AlphaCode, Inception, Minerva, GPT-3.5, and GPT-4,."

Here's a breakdown of each current team member and their contributions to artificial intelligence, according to AI Authority.
