The Tesla CEO and new Twitter owner announced on Tuesday, an upcoming change in its blue checkmark verification system. The checkmark -- which until this point has been assigned to mostly 'influential' users on the platform -- along with company's Twitter Blue service will be opened up to all users at $8/month.
The Chief Twit announced that subscribers will also get:
Priority in replies, mentions, and search, which Musk argues is “essential to defeat spam/scam”
Ability to post long video and audio
Half as many ads
And “paywall bypass for publishers willing to work with us"
The new pricing will vary by country “proportionate to purchasing power parity,” Musk said.
The prolific shitposter also tweeted a meme of his Halloween custume with caption: "ALL FOR $8. YESSSS!!!"
Twitter Blue which costs $4.99 a month, is currently not tied to being verified. And its main offerings were the ability to read ad-free articles, set an NFT as your profile picture, undo or edit tweets (in some countries), and customize your navigation bar.
Many woke left-wing users, especially media talking heads who attach unwarranted importance to the blue checkmark were not happy about Musk's announcement. They apparently believe that opening the system up to all users does what? Diminishes their own self-proclaimed status as 'sole purveyors of truth on the platform.'?
