The president on Tuesday, announced he has signed an executive order punishing the communist regime for violating Hong Kong's autonomy.

During a press conference in the White House Rose Garden, Trump said, "I signed legislation and an executive order to hold China accountable for its oppressive actions against the people of Hong Kong. No administration has been tougher on China than this administration.”

China recently passed the so-called 'national security' law that tightened its grip on Hong Kong violating the Island's semi-autonomous status which it has enjoyed since 1997.

The Hong Kong Accountability Act which Trump signed, passed overwhelmingly in both the Senate and the House earlier this summer. The act imposes sanctions on entities that help violate Hong Kong's autonomy and financial institutions that do business with them.

Trump also signed an executive order subjecting exports from Hong Kong to the same tariffs the White House has imposed on goods from mainland China.

The President has taken a more aggressive stance against China since the communist regime's mishandling of the wuhanvirus pandemic and abuse of the muslim Uigur population in western China.

Trump's action is a big blow to the communist regime which has been struggling to revive its economy following the pandemic.

China on Monday imposed sanctions on three U.S. lawmakers -- including outspoken China Hawk Ted Cruz -- and one ambassador in response to similar actions taken by the U.S. last week against Chinese officials over alleged human rights abuses.

Foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying condemned the U.S. move and said, “China will respond further according to the development of the situation."

Earlier, the UK government banned Chinese telecommunication company Huawei from its 5G network infrastructure. The action follows US sanctions on the Chinese company.

India also recently banned many Chinese apps following a military confrontation on its border with the communist regime.
