US In Recession: Critics, Tucker Carlson Slam Biden Admin's Spin On Economic Woes

According to the Commerce Department on Thursday, the United States Gross domestic product GDP -- the broadest measure of goods and services produced across the economy -- shrank by 0.9% on an annualized basis in the three-month period from April through June. This contrary to economists' expectation of a 0.5% expansion.

The department's report meets the criteria for a recession as record-high inflation and higher interest rates forced consumers and businesses to pull back on spending, causing the economy to shrink for 2 consecutive quarters.

President Joe Biden and his administration officials have been trying to put a spin on the looming recession news this week by falsely redefining the criteria for recession.

"We're not coming into recession, in my view," the president wrongly declared at the beginning of the week. "I don't think we're going to -- God willing -- I don't think we're going to see a recession."

Reacting to the Commerce Department report Thursday, Biden deliberately also failed to acknowledge that the economy is in a recession.

"Coming off of last year’s historic economic growth -- and regaining all the private sector jobs lost during the pandemic crisis -- it’s no surprise that the economy is slowing down as the Federal Reserve acts to bring down inflation," Biden said in a statement. "But even as we face historic global challenges, we are on the right path and we will come through this transition stronger and more secure."

The administration's spin on recession was embraced and regurgitated by left-wing media outlets including CNN, The Washington Post, The New York Times and Politico.

Critics pointed out that under former President Donald Trump, left-wing media talking heads claimed it was important to speak truth to power. Apparently it's again fashionable to tow the government's line.

On his show Tucker Carlson Tonight, Thursday, Carlson slammed Biden and his media lackeys.

The Fox News host says in part:

New economic numbers show our GDP has declined for two quarters in a row. That's the definition of a recession. We're in a recession. That's why Joe Biden had to hold the briefing. And yet Biden never once mentioned those numbers, not a single time. Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play? It was completely bizarre. Instead, Biden simply announced that there is no recession in the United States, no matter what you may have noticed about your own country. I repeat, there is no recession. In fact, thanks to the stalwart leadership of Joe Biden, we can announce record potato harvests in the provinces. The people are happy and thriving. Period. And with that, Biden left the stage.

We can change reality merely by calling it something else. If we call a man a woman, that's what she is. If we call an open border a secure border, that's what we have, and as you just saw, if we tell you that a collapsing economy is a robust economy, well, then it's time to celebrate our newfound prosperity and feel free to buy champagne on your EBT card. It's on us. It turns out that when you think you’re God, all that matters is what you say, your commands. "In the beginning was the Word" and this week the word was definitely not 'recession.'
