Queen Elizabeth herself is not there after experiencing "discomfort" following Thursday's celebrations. Senior politicians including Prime Minister Boris Johnson, along with other world religious leaders are at the service.

Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby who is also absent over coronavirus infection, has been widely criticized by conservative Christian leaders for leading the Church of England astray in a woke left-wing direction.

The presence of Prince Harry and Meghan are also noticeably muted following the couple's fallout with the royal family. The jubilee is their first public ceremonial appearance in 2 years in the United Kingdom. They were briefly booed at one point by a crowd of attendees.

Four days of celebrations marking the British Queen's 70-year reign began Thursday, with the 96-year-old monarch appearing twice at Buckingham Palace balcony, flanked by other senior royals, as they watched a military parade and waved at thousands of well-wishers gathered on The Mall.

The beacon lighting event Thursday evening, saw the Queen symbolically touch a globe to begin the ceremony at Windsor Castle.

The Commonwealth head of state illuminated the globe, symbolically sending a chain of lights from her Windsor Castle home to Buckingham Palace, where Prince William watched as a sculpture, the Tree of Trees, was bathed in light.

Thousands of beacons were also lit across the UK and the Commonwealth to mark the Platinum Jubilee.

The Queen will not attend Friday's Jubilee service at St Paul's Cathedral after reportedly experiencing discomfort while watching Thursday's parade at Buckingham Palace.

The decision was made with "great reluctance" after considering the "journey and activity required", the royal palace said.
