The Real Time host and comedian on Friday, slammed what he called the “woke police” for their latest fake online outraged reactions to Hollywood actor Matt Damon.
Damon in an interview recently said that, following a discussion with his daughter, he was going to “retire the faggot slur” from his vocabulary. The actor said that he used the term with a “different application” growing up, and it had remained with him in that context for some time. "Faggot" has been used to refer to a homosexual, until recently when woke activists and big tech started censoring it. In fact many homosexual use it to refer to each other.
Maher listed this and other instances of attacks and “cancel” efforts against Damon, saying they are “bad faith” arguments.
“One might say he became woke,” said Maher. “Okay, he was late to the party. To which we could say, ‘welcome. Glad you could make it.' Or we could say ‘you came later than I did, die!'” he continued. “There are too many people in this country who are motivated not by what they really believe, but why will get Twitter to react to them with likes and retweets. That’s called bad faith.”
The comedian later admonished the woke mob: “Shut the fuck up.” He ended his rant with an advice for Damon: “And Matt, my advice to you? Stop hunting for good will. You’re not gonna find much in this country.”
