President Trump Defends His Decision To Pardon Ex-Democrat Governor

Keneci Channel.

President Trump Tuesday announced pardons and commutations for several Americans. The president granted commutations to four people and full pardons to seven  others.

One of the people he commuted their sentences is former democrat Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich who has served 8 of a 14-year sentence. Blagojevich was charged for trying to sell the senate seat vacated by former President Barack Obama.

Democrats and some republicans slammed the President for the decision to commute the sentence of Blagojevich.

Some defended the president. Fox News Lisa Boothe pointed out that many legal experts agreed that the 14-year sentence is excessive.

Discussing the commutation on Fox news show 'Outnumbered' Boothe said, "anyone who is out there saying that they want a more equitable and fair criminal justice system, but thinks it is fair....for Blagojevich to serve 14 years in jail for non violent offenses, isn't really for a fair and equitable justice system."

President Trump apparently watched the show. In a tweet he defended his decision and thanked Boothe for her understanding comments.

He tweeted,

Rod Blagojevich did not sell the Senate seat. He served 8 years in prison, with many remaining. He paid a big price. Another Comey and gang deal! Thank you to @LisaMarieBoothe who really “gets” what’s going on! @FoxNews.
