The Attorney General at a press briefing Monday, said he has a 'general idea' of how the Durham’s investigation is going. He appointed U.S. Attorney John Durham to review the origins of the Russia probe which was started by Obama administration against the Trump campaign in 2016.

Barr said that what the Obama administration officials did to Trump was unprecedented: “What happened to the president in 2016 election and throughout the first two years of his administration was abhorrent. It was a grave injustice and it was unprecedented.”

He continued, “We saw two different standards of justice emerge. One that applied to Trump and his associates, and another that applied to everyone else.

The Durham investigation is trying to get to the bottom of what happened. It will determine if there were any federal laws broken, and if there were, those who broke the laws will be held to account.”

The Attorney General however ruled out investigating Barack Obama or Joe Biden.

Barr said he does not expect Durham’s probe to lead to a “criminal investigation” of either the former President or former Vice President.

“Our concern of potential criminality is focused on others,” he said.

The Attorney General said “this will not be and cannot be a tit-for-tat exercise.”

He said the only way to break away from a dual system of justice is to ensure we scrupulously apply the same system to both sides of the aisle.

Barr also insisted “we cannot allow this process to be hijacked by efforts to drum up criminal investigations of either candidate ... and that any effort to pursue an investigation of either candidate has to be approved by me.”

Barr made the remarks at the press briefing - alongside FBI Director Chris Wray - otherwise focused on the Naval Air Station Pensacola terrorist shooting in December 2019.

Recently declassified documents showed that Obama administration officials targeted and tried to entrap Trump campaign aids and later his incoming administration officials including Lieutenant General Michael Flynn.
