In a speech Thursday night in Pennsylvania, which critics condemned as deeply divisive and ominously tyrannical, President Joe Biden said former president Donald Trump and his MAGA supporters are extremists that threaten "the very foundations" of America.

The angry, caustic and Nazi-style tone and setting of the speech suggests the president and his Democrat party members are determined to portray the upcoming congressional elections as part of a war for "the Soul of the Nation," against Trump and over half of American voters who support him.

"These two documents, and the ideas they embody – equality and democracy -- are the rock upon which this nation is built," Biden said of the Declaration of Independence and Constitution, both written at Independence Hall. "But as I stand here tonight, equality and democracy are under assault," he claimed. "We do ourselves no favors to pretend otherwise."

Biden claimed that Trump and "the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our Republic." He said. "MAGA Republicans do not respect the Constitution. They do not believe in the rule of the law. They do not recognize the will of the people. They refuse to accept the results of a free election."

Reacting to the over 20 minutes speech, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy(R-CA) pointed out that Biden is trying to distract voters from a litany of issues, including inflation, that affect their .day-to-day lives.

"How many of you can afford to give up one month of your income? I bet not many," McCarthy said during an appearance north of Philadelphia in Scranton, Pennsylvania. "But if you had a constant salary for the past year, you've had more than one month of your income taken away. Democrats have had total control in Washington… So let me ask you this. How have they done?"

Trump responded in a statement: "Someone should explain to Joe Biden, slowly but passionately, that MAGA means, as powerfully as mere words can get, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! If he doesn’t want to Make America Great Again, which through words, action, and thought, he doesn’t, then he certainly should not be representing the United States of America!"

Critics also noted the president's hypocrisy in his attacks on Trump. He claimed the former president is divisive, while giving an extremely divisive speech.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson said that Biden "really has crossed over into a very dangerous, very dangerous place," and that "it's a complete outrage."

Many people online also expressed shock and disgust at the "blood-red Hitler-style" background behind the president who is flanked by two military officers.
