Florida Governor Ron DeSantis 44, has announced his run for president in the 2024 elections. He released a video on Wednesday launching his campaign and formally announced his run on Twitter Spaces interview with Elon Musk, moderated by tech investor and entrepreneur David Sacks.

"Our border is a disaster," DeSantis declared in the campaign launch video. "Crime infests our cities. The federal government makes it harder for families to make ends meet. And the president flounders."

The governor who has racked up a slew of conservative policy victories, points to his record in Florida, emphasizing that "we chose facts over fear, education over indoctrination, law and order over rioting and disorder. We held the line when freedom hung in the balance;" referencing his widely-praised handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

DeSantis' appearance on Twitter Spaces was delayed about 20 minutes by technical glitches as the app repeatedly crashed. Nearly 2 million users logged in to hear the announcement.

The governor fielded wide-ranging questions from Musk, Sacks and others like popular radio host Dana Loesch, on topics like bitcoin, immigration and the left's cultural Marxism.

"You have every right to do Bitcoin," DeSantis said while responding to Sacks' question about Biden administration's regulatory crackdown on the crypto industry. "The only reason bureaucrats in DC don't like Bitcoin is that they can't control it. As President we'll protect your right to use Bitcoin." The governor also said he's opposed to central bank digital currencies CBDCs.

DeSantis joins a Republican primary election field that includes former president Donald Trump, former ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, and former two-term South Carolina governor; Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina.

The Republican Party winner in the primary elections, will challenge President Biden in 2024 general elections.
