Senator Ted Cruz Scorches Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor

The Texas senator slammed the Supreme Court Justice, Tuesday for her partisan dissent from a recent decision by the court granting Trump administration’s request to stay an injunction against the new public charge law.

Writing the controversial dissent, Sotomayor insinuated that her conservative colleagues are eager to lift injunctions issued by lower courts against Trump administration's policies.

She wrote, "It is hard to say what is more troubling, that the Government would seek this extraordinary relief seemingly as a matter of course, or that the Court would grant it."

At a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the use of nationwide injunctions – which stop policies from taking effect - Ted Cruz explained where the blame lies.

He argued that the blame lies with "a handful of judges who are operating effectively as part of the resistance movement, trying to put themselves in the way of Trump policies they happen to disagree with."

The Senator also noted the disparity between the number of nationwide injunctions granted against the Trump administration compared with previous administrations.

Cruz said, “In the eight years of the George W. Bush administration, district courts issued a total of 12 universal injunctions against the Bush administration.”

He continued, "In the eight years of the Obama administration, district courts issued 19 universal injunctions against the Obama administration. In just three years of the Trump administration, we have already had 55 national universal injunctions issued against the federal government."

Senator Cruz argued that such unprecedented number of injunctions is what 'is necessitating the department of justice going to the Supreme Court.'
