Scientists: Australia Fires Kill 1 Billion Animals

According to University of Sydney estimate, 1 billion animals were killed in recent bush fires in Australia.

Professor Chris Dickman in a revised estimate, stated that 1 billion animals were impacted by the bush fires. “We know that Australian biodiversity has been going down over the last several decades, and it's probably fairly well known that Australia's got the world's highest rate of extinction for mammals. It's events like this that may well hasten the extinction process for a range of other species. So, it's a very sad time," Dickman said to National Public Radio.

He also explained that the species that survive the fires will re-emerge in an unsuitable environment without the resources necessary for survival.

Dickman also blamed "climate change." But it has been widely reported that arson caused some of the fires.
