President Donald Trump, in a Truth Social post on Monday, demanded that pharmaceutical companies publicly justify the effectiveness of their Covid-19 vaccines, stating that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is being "ripped apart" over the issue and calling for immediate disclosure of data to "clear up this MESS."
Trump claimed to have seen "extraordinary" information from companies like Pfizer indicating the vaccines saved millions of lives but accused them of withholding this data from the public and the CDC
He wrote, "It is very important that the Drug Companies justify the success of their various Covid Drugs. Many people think they are a miracle that saved Millions of lives. Others disagree! With CDC being ripped apart over this question, I want the answer, and I want it NOW. I have been shown information from Pfizer, and others, that is extraordinary, but they never seem to show those results to the public. Why not??? They go off to the next ‘hunt’ and let everyone rip themselves apart, including Bobby Kennedy Jr. and CDC, trying to figure out the success or failure of the Drug Companies Covid work. I hope OPERATION WARP SPEED was as ‘BRILLIANT’ as many say it was. If not, we all want to know about it, and why??? Thank you for your attention to this very important matter!"
Trump's post followed the abrupt dismissal of left-wing CDC Director Susan Monarez, who refused to resign after a dispute with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. over vaccine policy. This event triggered the resignation of four other far-left senior CDC officials.
The Food and Drug Administration, FDA, under Kennedy's department, recently limited eligibility for the updated Covid-19 vaccine to adults 65 and older and those at higher risk of severe illness.
Trump has previously expressed skepticism about mandates and has been a vocal supporter of Kennedy's efforts to restructure the CDC and its policies.
The FDA's decision to narrow vaccine eligibility has been defended by Commissioner Marty Makary, who argued it preserves vaccines for those most likely to benefit and generates evidence against an endless booster campaign.
Trump's statement Monday, appears to reflect a complex stance, simultaneously defending his administration's Operation Warp Speed initiative—launched in May 2020 to fast-track vaccine development—as a "brilliant" achievement while questioning the transparency of the companies involved and echoing the skepticism promoted by Kennedy and many other scientists about the efficacy of the vaccines.
Operation Warp Speed was a government initiative to accelerate the development, production, and distribution of Covid-19 vaccines and therapeutics.
The first Covid-19 vaccines (Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna) received emergency use authorization from the FDA in December 2020, with Johnson & Johnson's following in February 2021.
