Denny Hamlin Wins Daytona 500

Denny Hamlin made history Monday winning NASCAR's biggest race for the second year in a row.

In a photo finish, Hamlin held off Ryan Blaney in the second overtime, in what may be the longest Daytona 500 in history.

Multiple wrecks in the final 20 laps decimated the field, the most serious of which is Ryan Newman's horrific wreck. He held the lead as the field took the white flag, and was racing for the win before his No. 6 Ford crashed.  Ryan is recovering at the hospital.

This victory means Hamlin has won three of the last five Daytona 500s, also giving team owner Joe Gibbs his fourth victory.

Reacting to his victory, Hamlin called for prrayers for Ryan Newman. "Things really worked out perfectly there for me at the end,.... but we all have to bow our heads and pray for Ryan Newman. That’s the number one thing we should all be thinking about right now,” he said.
