Jake Paul To Box Tyron Woodley After Tommy Fury Pulled Out Due "To Medical Condition"

[Update] Tommy Fury Reveals Why He Pulled Out Of Scheduled Fight With Jake Paul

The 22-year-old British boxer in a statement to the media Monday said: "I am absolutely heartbroken that I have been forced to withdraw from my fight with Jake Paul due to a bacterial chest infection and broken rib. I really do hope we can get this fight rescheduled in the new year. I want this fight to still happen more than anything."

Fury also said in an Instagram video that he has been dealing with the infection for months and was doing his best to fight through it, but the broken rib became the last straw. He provided hospital scans to back up his reason for withdrawing from the bout, saying in no way is he dodging Paul.

Paul had earlier told the media that he's pissed off over the whole situation, and will have to think long and hard before agreeing to step in the ring with Fury, claiming he also did a terrible job at promoting the fight.

"I don't see a reason to come back next year and give him that big of an opportunity and that big of a payday," Paul said. "It would almost be more fun and more satisfying for me to just leave him in the dust and make him fight until he's 25-0, if he gets that far, to get the same payday that he was getting in his eighth fight."

Earlier comments by Fury's older half-brother and WBC Heavyweight champion Tyson taunting Paul, resurfaced Monday on social media. When making it clear that his half-brother would encounter no problems against Paul, the WBC champion said he'd be able to win with broken ribs and flu - eerily similar to the two issues that have forced him to now pull out of the fight.

"Tommy could have his worst night ever and still beat Jake Paul," Tyson said at the time. "He could probably turn up with broken ribs, a broken left hand, two left feet, his clothes on back to front and a flue and he would still beat him. That is how confident I am that he can beat Jake Paul."

Paul and Fury were set to take to the ring on December 18th at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. The former Love Island star and brother of heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury, has hit several obstacles ahead of the fight. He was set to train in the states, but flew back to the United Kingdom for personal reasons.

Fury -- who has been training with his brother Tyson and father John -- reportedly caught cold. He had engaged in harsh back and forth on social media with Paul culminating in a recent promotional press conference which descended into chaos as a series of vulgar insults were directed at Paul’s girlfriend Julia Rose by Fury’s father. Each fighter had vowed to end the other’s nascent boxing career with victory in the Florida fight from which the 22-year-old British boxer has now pulled out "due to a medical condition."

Speaking about the news on Instagram Monday, Paul announced that former UFC star Tyron Woodley will fight him instead. The YouTuber-turned-boxer said: “It is official, Tommy Fury is boxing’s biggest bitch. When my team woke me up on Friday to tell me Tommy Fumbles was pulling out, I told them I’ll fight anyone on December 18th. Unlike the Fury’s, Tyron actually has some balls, is stepping in, and contractually he is getting an extra $500,000 if he knocks me out."

Paul was coming off from back-to-back wins against Woodley and former MMA fighter Ben Askren. He is undefeated in his four professional fights since swapping the world of YouTube for boxing. Fury has also won each of his seven fights.

In another video he posted on Twitter, Paul said that Woodley has been training. "I didn't knock him out the first time," the 24-year-old said of Woodley. "I'm coming back, and am getting the crazy 'W,' the crazy highlight reel knockout. December 18th, the show must go on."

Paul and Woodley had verbally agreed to a rematch after their first fight, with Paul insisting he would only face Woodley again once the MMA champion got an ‘I love Jake Paul’ tattoo. Woodley eventually got the tattoo.

Woodley had recently been critical of Paul for supposedly avoiding a rematch. Speaking to MMAJunkie, he said: “Jake Paul is a bitch. He didn’t want to fight, like, ‘You did it too late.’ No, you just didn’t want to fight, and they gave you a way out, and you took it and ran. It’s like a little kid in a playground, ‘Na, na, na, na, na,’ when they know they didn’t really win. .... Most people that watched the fight felt like I won the fight. I really didn’t walk away a loser in the fight. My ceiling doesn’t look different right now.”

Following the news Monday, that he pulled out of the fight against Paul, Fury has faced harsh mockery on social media, with some calling the move ’embarrassing’ and accusing the Love Island star of 'shitting' himself.
