TALKING HEADS

BRUTAL: Hungarian Minister Embarrasses CNN Host For Spreading Fake News Right In Front Of Him

Keneci Channel.

An amused Hungarian Foreign minister Péter Szijjártó found himself being bombarded by a series of false claims by CNN's Christian Amanpour live on TV.

The Hungarian parliament voted last month to give Prime minister Viktor Orban emergency powers meant to help the government react quickly to the coronavirus outbreak. The law made it clear that the Hungarian Parliament can withdraw its consent anytime when it’s in session with a quorum present(akin to a quorum of US senate or House of representatives).

Since the vote, western liberal media outlets have smeared the Hungarian government with false assertions and hysterical headlines. CNN falsely reported that the law gives Orban unchecked power "to rule by decree indefinitely."

During the ridiculous interview, Amanpour asked Minister Szijjártó if "coronavirus has killed off its first democracy, talking about yours?"

The minister responded by first knocking the 'fake news' reports about the emergency law, then explained that the power actually lies with parliament: "I see that there're fake news and the lies spread about Hungary out there based on this new law. I understand that many of these reports about us emphasize that there's no time limit in the law. Which is not entirely true, given the fact that the law says it the parliament itself which can conclude the state of danger."

Szijjártó also pointed out the hypocrisy in the media for not reporting on other European nations like France where President Macron can prolong the state of emergency without the input of lawmakers.

Amanpour didn't like the minister using the term 'fake news.' "As you know we don't engage in fake news. So there's just no point in even using that term when talking to me.," the CNN host bristled. It is a sensitive topic for CNN as the 'CNN is fake news' meme has stuck with them worldwide.

She came up with another ridiculous question, asking the minister how it is possible for parliament to check the government given that the government has a two-thirds majority. The minister had to explain to her that parliamentarians were elected by the people.

"The composition of the parliament is not an outcome of a lottery but elections,"the minister said sounding exasperated. "It's kind of natural that in a parliament, there's a majority and there's a minority." He then proceeded to say 'fake news' (deliberately?) three times in his next comments, rightly mentioning that many media outlets have indeed been spreading fake news about Hungary. But something hilarious happened next.

Amanpour sprung up another whopper. She claimed that the Hungarian parliament is not functioning. The CNN host listed other countries' legislative bodies which she falsely claimed are still in session.

"...The British parliament is still functioning. The United States congress is still functioning, your parliament is not, your parliament is closed down!" she ranted.

The Minister sounding amused, diplomatically called out the CNN host for spreading another fake news. "You know Ms Amanpour I really respect you a lot personally ... but now you've been engaged in spreading another fake news about Hungary, sorry to say. But you just said that parliament is blocked in Hungary, which is not true. The parliament is in session!"

The Host incredulously interrupted, "ok that's news."

A TV 'news' host prepared for an interview with a foreign minister without bothering to check key facts about the topic she wants to discuss? She quickly pivoted to asking about transgender issues. The minister rightly laughed at the quick pivot.

She also misrepresented US Secretary of state Pompeo's statement and claimed he was referring specifically to Hungary. Szijjártó had to correct her again and again reminded her of her whopper earlier. Brutal!

At the beginning of the interview, Amanpour hypocritically, claimed that the wuhanvirus pandemic "may also pretty putting democracy and the rule of law under strain."

Ironically it is the same liberal media, especially CNN that is cheering liberal leaders across the west who are taking advantage of the pandemic to trample on human and civil rights of citizens.
