A lesbian singer, Tish Hyman, was banned from a Gold’s Gym location in Los Angeles after she complained about a transgender woman allegedly staring at her while she was naked in the women’s locker room, sparking a national debate on women’s safety and transgender degeneracy. The incident Monday, at the Beverly Center location, led to widespread backlash, with users calling for a boycott of Gold’s Gym and canceling memberships.
Hyman, a 43-year-old Grammy-nominated singer and open lesbian, reported that she was undressed in the locker room when a person she identified as a man entered, stared at her, and called her a "bitch" in a deep voice. She felt violated and ran out screaming, prompting other women to join her in protesting the individual’s presence.
The 43-year-old claimed she had previously filed multiple written reports about the same individual, who she described as wearing "boy clothes" and behaving in a sexually aggressive manner, but the gym staff took no action.
After confronting the individual in the gym corridor, Hyman was escorted to the lobby, where her membership was revoked by Gold’s Gym staff, despite her claims of being a victim of harassment. She said she was not banned for being transphobic, but for objecting to a man being in a women’s space while she was naked.
The gym location is now operated by Eōs Fitness, which recently acquired 23 Gold’s Gym locations in Southern California, including this one, though the signage has not yet been updated.
The incident has gone viral on social media, with Hyman sharing videos on X and Instagram, leading to a surge in calls for a boycott of Gold’s Gym. Many users have canceled memberships, citing a lack of protection for women’s privacy and safety.
Hyman has since launched a petition urging lawmakers to protect women-only spaces, which has gathered over thousands of signatures. She has also called for the creation of gender-neutral restrooms as a compromise.
Gold’s Gym has not issued any public statement regarding the incident. The individual involved, reportedly named Alexis Black, has defended his identity on social media, saying that being transgender is central to his sense of self.
Critics argue that California’s AB 1266 law signed by Governor Gavin Newsom, which allows individuals to use facilities based on gender identity, undermines women’s safety in private spaces.
