Elon Musk Hints At Launching New Social Media Platform, As Twitter Censors Babylon Bee, Tucker Carlson

Following Twitter's suspension of satirical website Babylon Bee -- and this past week Fox News host Tucker Carlson for tweeting about it, -- the ongoing debate over free speech on social media is again heating up with SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk "giving a serious thought," to the idea of a new pro-free-speech social media platform.

Musk put out a Twitter poll asking users if they believed Twitter adheres to the principle of free speech. Over 70% voted "no."

"The consequences of this poll will be important. Please vote carefully," he added on Friday.

The SpaceX CEO wrote in another tweet: "Given that Twitter serves as the de facto public town square, failing to adhere to free speech principles fundamentally undermines democracy."

"Is a new platform needed?" Musk asked in another tweet. "What should be done?"

One Twitter user @PPathole asked the Tesla CEO: "Would you consider building a new social media platform, @elonmusk? One that would consist an open source algorithm, one where free speech and adhering to free speech is given top priority, one where propaganda is very minimal. I think that kind of a platform is needed."

To which Musk replied: "Am giving serious thought to this."

This led many to conclude that the SpaceX CEO who apparently pays attention to the cultural and political fights and trends on social media, is indeed planning to launch a new social media network.

Reactions and suggestions vary. While some 'woke' leftists defend Twitter and whine about Musk raising the issue of free speech; others offered some suggestions on what they think the popular CEO should do.

The suggestions on what Musk should do to, as they say, "save free speech and democracy," include buying Twitter and firing all the woke anti-free-speech employees at the left-wing company.

However, Andrew Torba, the CEO of Gab pointed out that he's already offering a pro-free-speech platform. "It already exists," he wrote replying to Musk. Gab is indeed the least censorious major social media platform on the internet.

One Twitter user retweeted by Torba made an interesting observation. @artilectium wrote: "Elon doesn't get it, the app stores, and most web services WILL NOT ALLOW FREE SPEECH. If @elonmusk were serious about making a free speech network, he would talk to Andrew Torba of Gab. Elon will run into all of the same deplatforming if free speech online is the actual goal."
