The Gab Fediverse

Keneci Channel

The free speech social network Gab on July 4th this year, entered the world of open source decentralized social networks. Fediverse is a federated network of servers(or instances) that communicate with each other based on one or more of the open standard communication protocols like ActivityPub, OStatus, etc. Gab AI in an attempt to stave off the wave of bans it faced from big tech, forked the Mastodon open source social network software. The result is Gab Social which runs the activitypub protocols.

On implementing the activitypub protocols, the users of Gab can now communicate with users of other social and media networks in the fediversee And the new Gab immediately becomes the largest social network in the fediverse. There are over 1 million Gab users, 3 times more than the next biggest network Pawoo.

The new Gab social user interface(UI) is completely redesigned, less cluttered and smoother. The "Home" timeline displays gabs(or posts) of the people you follow. The "All" timeline by default displays gabs by all Gab users, and  includes a toggle setting to also display posts of users across the fediverse. There are also the  "group" and "list" features, and of course "notifications."

There are dozens of apps on the app stores that can be used to sign in to Gab and the fediverse. There apps can also be found on Gab's own app store.
