Trump Media said it is merging with Digital World Acquisition Corp., to form “a business combination that will result in Trump Media & Technology Group TMTG, becoming a publicly listed company.”

President Donald J. Trump, the Chairman of TMTG, stated, “I created TRUTH Social and TMTG to stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech," President Donald J. Trump, the Chairman of TMTG, said in a statement released Wednesday. "We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced. This is unacceptable. I am excited to send out my first TRUTH on TRUTH Social very soon. TMTG was founded with a mission to give a voice to all. I’m excited to soon begin sharing my thoughts on TRUTH Social and to fight back against Big Tech. Everyone asks me why doesn’t someone stand up to Big Tech? Well, we will be soon!”

The app, which is available for pre-order in Apple's App Store, will open to invitees for beta testing in November and to the public in the first quarter of 2022. Currently TRUTH Social is based on Mastodon software -- a decentralized open-source social media network.

Hackers have already started probing the yet to be launched service. Eugen Rochko, mastodon founder and lead developer said that based on the screenshots has seen circulating online, "Truth Social looks exactly like the Mastodon [user interface] with light theme."

“Well that looks familiar,” the Mastodon Twitter account tweeted in response to Daily Dot reporter Mikael Thalen posting a screenshot of a Truth Social account he managed to register in Donald Trump’s name. Rochko told Motherboard this Truth Social screenshot “looks exactly like the Mastodon UI with the light theme.”

The press release also promises “to launch a subscription video on demand service (TMTG+)," which "will feature ‘non-woke’ entertainment programming, news, podcasts, and more.”

Digital World Acquisition Corp. is a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC), which have become increasingly popular over the last few years. SPACs helps companies with which it merges, raise money via initial public offerings, IPOs. By merging with DWAC, Trump's TMTG avoids going through a normal IPO which is heavily regulated and takes time to materialize.
