Ron DeSantis Slams Media For Mischaracterizing His 'Bonus' Offer To Recruit "Mistreated" Out-of-state Police Officers

The popular Florida Republican governor in a Fox News interview Sunday, told anchor Maria Bartiromo  that he hopes to sign legislation offering $5,000 bonuses to out-of-state police officers who move to his state.

"NYPD, Minneapolis, Seattle, if you're not being treated well, we'll treat you better here, you can fill important needs for us and we'll compensate you as a result," DeSantis announced on Fox News.

However left-wing Democrat media activists led with false headlines suggesting that the governor's offer is merely to officers facing termination for refusing to get the coronavirus vaccine shot. Their reporting implies that DeSantis' offer is a political stunt aimed against the Biden administration.

DeSantis had criticized President Biden's push for vaccine mandates vowing to fight it in the courts. But the governor made it clear Monday, that his Offer of a bonus is to any officer in a state where he or she is not appreciated especially Democrat-run states and cities where police officers are vilified by far-left 'woke' mobs and politicians.

"Today @GovRonDeSantis dispels another false narrative that's all over the mainstream media," DeSantis' spokeswoman Christina Pushaw tweeted with a clip showing the governor commenting on his bonus offer. "It started with @washingtonpost, whose reporter/activist emailed me for comment at 11:21 PM last night on a 5:00 AM deadline."

During his remarks in Venice, Florida, DeSantis made it clear his bonus offer is not merely for unvaccinated police officers in other states.

"No, no, no, no,” DeSantis said to a reporter. “It’s for officers period. It has nothing to do with their vaccination status. That’s just wrong. I think there was a headline from a corporate outlet. We all know corporate media lies, OK. They do not tell the truth. Assume what they tell you is false and then figure out why they are telling you a false narrative.”

The Governor noted that this is not the first time he has made overtures to officers in other jurisdictions.

“I put that out there as a proposal months ago and the reason we’re doing it is because people are being treated poorly in Seattle, in Minnesota, in the NYPD. They don’t have support,” DeSantis said. “They get criticized if they enforce the law.”

“We’re looking to capitalize on a lot of communities around the country who have turned their back on law enforcement,” the governor later added.
