Microsoft announced Tuesday, that the new Microsoft Store will be launched in October to the public alongside the new version of their computer Operating System Windows 11.

The tech giant is allowing third party desktop browsers aboard the store. Opera and Yandex browsers are already available for Windows Insiders who are testing the beta versions of the Store on Windows 11. Other available desktop apps include VLC, Zoom, Music Maker, LibreOffice, Discord; and Progressive Web Apps(PWAs) like TikTok, Clipchamp and Reddit.

As part of the initiative announced by the company in June to allow third-party storefront apps, Microsoft revealed that Amazon and Epic Games will bring their storefront apps to the Microsoft Store "over the next few months."

The third-party storefront apps will be discoverable in the Microsoft Store. "Just like any other app, third-party storefront apps will have a product detail page that can be found via search or by browsing – so that users can easily find and install it with the same confidence as any other app in the Microsoft Store on Windows," explains Giorgio Sardo, general manager of the Microsoft Store.

Microsoft also announced that Android apps and games will soon be available for preview in the Microsoft Store for Windows Insiders, "including the ability to discover and search the Amazon Appstore catalogue directly in the Microsoft Store."

This basically makes Microsoft Store virtually the one-stop shop for all apps.

As it announced in June, Microsoft will also let developers keep 100 percent of the revenue from apps if they use alternative payment platforms. This doesn't apply to games.
