X launched video and audio calling feature on the social media platform on Wednesday. The ability to call users is currently available to users subscribed to the $8 per month paid service, X Premium.

To start making calls, check that you have the latest version of the X app installed; navigate to Settings -> Privacy and safety -> Direct messages, and then turn on the video and audio calling feature.

To make a call, tap on a conversation with a user, click the phone icon, and choose whether you want to make an audio or video call. You can also control who can call you on the service.

While the ability to initiate a call is available only to X Premium subscribers, the recipient of the call does not have to be a subscriber. The call feature is currently only available for iOS devices, it will be rolling out to Android and the web, according the X.

X Owner Elon Musk, and CEO Linda Yaccarino both posted about the launch. Yaccarino shared a screenshot showing the call feature in action. This is part of the company's plan to build the so-called 'everything app,' for shopping, payment processing, video/audio calling and job search which they launched recently for Verified organization subscribers.

Wednesday launch comes as the company formerly known as Twitter, marks one year since Elon Musk acquired it. "One year into a bold vision," Yaccarino wrote on X. "We have accelerated the future of this platform as @X. From promoting free expression to welcoming the creator economy to our incredible brand partnerships. Here's why the future of X is bright!"

Musk walked into X headquarters in San Francisco on October 26 last year, carrying the iconic sink. On Aug. 1 of this year, the company dismantled the Twitter logo from it HQ building as it changed its name to X.
